There is a fascinating history to the Cambodia gambling dens that sit just across the dividing line from neighboring Thailand, where gambling hall gaming is not allowed. Eight casinos are anchored in a generally small location in the municipality of Poipet in Cambodia. This group of Cambodia gambling halls is in a perfect location, a three to four hour trip from Bangkok and Macao, the two biggest gaming centers in Asia. Cambodia gambling halls do a huge business with Thai blue-collar workers and tourists from Malaysia, Japan, South Korea, and Singapore, with just a few Westerners. The amazing income accrued from the casinos ranges from seven and a half million dollars to over twelve and a half million dollars, and there are a few limitations requirements for casino ownership. Ownership is required to be mainly Thai; however, investment sources are ambiguous. The borders are formally open from 9:00 a.m. to 17:00, and although visas are for all intents and purposes needed to cross, there are methods and means around this, as is correct of many borders.

The 1st Cambodia gambling dens opened in Phnom Penh in the mid nineties, but were required to close in the late nineties, leaving just one casino in the capital, the Naga Resort. The Naga, a moored bateau casino, features one hundred and fifty one armed bandits and 60 gaming tables. The Naga gambling hall never closes with forty two tables of mini-baccarat, four tables of blackjack, ten of roulette, 2 of Caribbean Stud Poker, and 1 each of Pai-Gow and Tai-Sai.

The first casino in Poipet, the Holiday Palace, premiered in the late nineties and the Golden Crown soon opened. There are one hundred and fifty slot machine games and 5 table games at the Golden Crown and 104 slot machine games and 68 gaming tables at the Holiday Palace. The newer Holiday Palace Casino and Resort features three hundred slot machine games and 70 gaming tables and the Princess Hotel and Casino, also in Poipet, has one hundred and sixty six slot machines and ninety six gaming tables, including 87 baccarat (the most popular game), Fan Tan, and Pai Gow. Also, there is the Casino Tropicana, with one hundred and thirty five one armed bandits and 66 of the familiar tables, as well as a single table of Casino Stud Poker. An additional of the 8 casinos in Poipet, also in a motel, is the Princess Casino with one hundred and sixty six slot machine games and 97 table games. The Star Vegas Casino is is located in a multinational vacation and hotel compound that features many comforts aside from the casino, which provides 10,000 sq.ft. of 130 slots and eighty eight gaming tables.
